![]() ![]() However, I don't think the price difference is all that much. I wouldn't hesitate to put an generic brand DOT 3 in. The brake fluid - Honda Genuine is not really any different than any other DOT 3 brake fluid. I'll touch on the three that were a little unclear. The OP seems to have a pretty good handle on the fluids. Should I use it for the Ridgeline or get some Honda DOT 3 fluid? My Ridgeline could stand to have a little brake fluid and I've got some standard Autozone DOT 3 fluid sitting around that I use for my other vehicles. Transfer case oil - manual says hypoid or 80W-90 gear oil, GL4/GL5, so no Honda branded oil necessary here. VTM-4 fluid (differential) - Honda stuff here. A lot of the newer coolant these days say "safe for all makes, models". Transmission fluid - Ridgeline used the ATF-Z1, so need to stick with it.Ĭoolant - Manual says Honda stuff, but warns against possible corrosion with other stuff. Warns of possible problems with non-Honda brake fluid. I've known even before I had a Honda that using anything other than ps fluid that is Honda branded or specifically labeled for Honda was a no-no.īrake fluid - Owner's manual says use Honda's DOT3 stuff, but that "regular" DOT3 brake fluid can be used temporarily. My Ridgeline is my first non-domestic brand vehicle and I'm wanting to keep it for a LONG time (200,000+ miles, 10-15 yrs+) and so I want to make sure I take care of it. Which fluids HAVE to be or are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to be Honda branded or formulated. OK, I think I posted this some time ago, but wanted to bring it up again for my own clarification.
